Yeah, I'm just procrastinating.

Stupid project I'm working late on I don't want to be working late on.

Oh yeah, Adrienne has Chron's disease. That's been interesting. But at least we know why she's been miserable for the last three months. And they've started treatment.

What are you supposed to write in these things, anyways?

Talking about my life just seems so mundane.

But if people really are interested, I did a sleep study recently. It seems I have sleep apnea. I have a follow up sleep study with a CPAP machine, and then will get one prescribed. The idea of magically having more energy is neat.

Hey, this thing still exists.

Well, I mostly just keep this thing around to watch friends journals. But I figured I'd post some content-less fluff for kicks and giggles.

2nd History Class

I started my second history class today:
HIST 205 HIGH MIDDLE AGES: 900-1350

It should be fun, the middle ages is always interesting, being a geek. It's also a good follow up to my general overview of western civilization I had last semester. I am already familiar with the topics and general issues and influences of the time.

It's still a kick in the balls that I have to pay $300 in student fees for my "free" course I get to take on space available status as a University employee. The fact that I have last priority on getting into classes makes having to pay a fee for services I will never use add insult to injury. But I am still saving $724 in tuition, so there is only so much I can complain.

The professor is a graduate student, and has TA'ed for Professor Kadish, whose class I enjoyed greatly last semester. The lecture today was interesting, so I'm looking forward to the class. She is also a person I can potentially talk to about what options there are in discussing History as a career. Becoming a History professor still seems unlikely, but the idea is very appealing. I think it is a career I could be excited and interested in, rather than just doing it because it pays the bills. Being a professor would also involve interaction with people, which I miss in my current programming job. However, it seems like the history field would be over crowded if anything, so I am not looking at the idea as anything more than a pipe dream at this point. When I've got my bachelor's a couple years from now I can investigate the possibilities of being a graduate student.

I am currently very behind on writing a novel this month. Who would think it was so time consuming?

I also behind on my term paper for History. It is going to be something involving the Roman Military, but I need to do more research to determine exactly what.

November 1

I'm taking History 101 - Western Civilization with Professor Kadish. I'm absolutely loving the course. College is cooler when you actually want to be there. I've had fun learning about the Roman empire and such. Now we're on feudal europe and the crusades.

For all of you writers out there, check out this:

Adrienne pointed it out to me, it seems like a lot of fun. I just signed up today.

Pondering Work

For quite some time I've been struggingling with slacking off at my job, and making myself feel guilty. I am very good at beating myself up. Quite often it seems like there is very little to do, and I feel worthless because of it. I then procrastinate, and then beat myself up for procrastination.

However, I am finally starting to come to terms with several facts. I have always gotten done anything that I was asked to do in a timely fashion. My boss has flat said that currently there isn't much for me to do, and told me to just experiment with learning COBOL. So prehaps I am not an awful employee like I have been accusing myself, but rather am doing fine with meeting the requirements of the job.

Back to School Blues

So, since I can take classes basically free as an employee at Suny Binghamton, I figure I should probably start working on that darn bachelors. The problem is that Computer Science is the suck. I've got a bunch of math left for it, and computer science classes that are basically math. So I think I'm going to just get some sort of humanities degree with a CS minor. Any suggestion on what I should go into?

Ryan, Missy, does history involve lots of paper writing, or just reading?

Generic Updatitude

I've discovered that getting up in the morning and getting to work on time has an amazing effect of making my job depress me less, yay! Not slacking, for the win.

Adrienne and I went grocery shopping last night, for our new plan to try and eat better. I picked up some propane, and some chicken and steak, so I'm excited about grilling that. Adrienne is going to be in charge of the vegetables.

I've become interested in World of Warcraft again, I blame the changes to the Rogue class, and cross realm battlegrounds. Maybe PvP won't suck now and I can get my fix of stabbing bitches.

In other news they're still jack hammering the concrete outside the computer center. It makes it a pain in the ass to get to work. I occasionally go through the bat cave underneath, but I'm always concerned the jackhammering is going to knock something lose on top of my head.

Soon I get to start the exciting project at work at converting the student authentication for BUSI and other applications to use a BU ID instead of an SSN. Oh boy! I'll have to do some COBOL and other mysterious mainframe voodoo.

I have a wedding to go to in the middle of a field this weekend. It sounds like it'll be a good time. I need to decide how drunk I'm going to get. I have to decide if Beowulf will be unleashed or not.

Superman Returns

I went to see superman returns this weekend. After seeing the preview, which mostly featured Lex Luther acting wacky and magical crystals, I was expecting it to be incredibly awful. I was very pleasantly surprised to discover it wasn't nearly as cheesy as the preview made it look.

I would definitely rate it as worth seeing on the big screen.

I am still eagerly awaiting what will surely be the movie of the century:
Snakes on a Plane

Civil Slacking

Many people in the Tech Industry find themselves wasting large amounts of time on the internet while they're "working." Being a state employee and a computer programmer, I am particularly guilty of this. I am akin to a high tech road worker, leaning on my digital shovel.

Today at work while killing time I discovered the ACLU Action Center at http://www.aclu.org/
They have a whole section of pre-made emails on various topics you can send to your representatives with a simple form. So next time you find yourself bored on the internet, at work or otherwise, check it out.

Back to Reality

I just finished up my 8 day weekend. The floods and Jared being in town were convenient excuses to not go to work for a while. Of course, now I'm even more depressed to be here. Luckily Live Journal is an easy way to waste time. Of course, starting to write here could make it even harder to be productive at work. I could see myself wasting way too much time here. oh well, it at least seems slightly more productive than reading WoW forums. Speaking of which, my subscription expired the 2nd, whee. I might renew just to use as a glorified IRC, we'll see.
